ZenShin Goshin Jiu Jitsu is a complete martial arts system that incorporates the striking techniques of Karate, the throwing techniques of Judo, the grappling techniques of Jiu Jitsu, the hand speed of Arnis, the joint locking the Chin-Na, the footwork of Kung Fu, the leg kicking of Mauy Tai and the gentleness of Aikido. ZenShin, meaning the entire body, and Goshin, meaning self-protection, make a perfect name for a complete self defense system. ZenShin founder Shihan Duke Swain formed this system after 35 years of martial arts training in all of the above listed arts. Each art by itself has tremendous merit. But by combining them into one system, their strengths are magnified and become even greater.
Shihan believes that there is still a place for traditional martial arts and martial artists. But just as the times have changed so have the methods of fighting. No longer do two men stand toe to toe and strike each other blow for blow. It is instead, complete mayhem. More criminals are now training in these so called hybrid styles of martial arts. Thus, they have raised the bar to a new level of fighting and self-protection. Therefore, we must elevate our own level of training in order to compete. Shihan believes that if your attacker wants to stand and fight then take him to the ground. Or, if your attacker wants to go to the ground, you make him stand and fight. Thus you are fighting your fight and not your attackers. That means that you must be skilled in all areas of self-defense. ZenShin Goshin Jiu Jitsu encompasses all of these areas. Shihan Swain does not condone fighting just to fight. One should only fight if you or your family’s life is in danger.
