When I first met Shihan Swain I was seeking a martial arts program after moving and leaving an excellent previous teacher. Immediately, I was impressed with a combination of traits that are unusual to find in martial arts. Shihan is relaxed in his interactions with students, yet he understands traditions of martial arts and puts them into his teaching. He is an advanced practitioner but knows how to teach both basic and complex moves in a very simple way. He has a great sense of humor along with a seriousness of style when things are important. You feel safe in his class even when you are at the edge. You learn a wide range of techniques crossing over many arts. And you learn self-defense that can be used to stop a minor threat with minimal force to protecting yourself and your family in face of serious danger. When he left the school, where I first met him, and opened up his own dojo it was an easy decision to double my drive to train with him. I have extensive exposure to teachers in my professional life and pursuit of martial arts training. Shihan Swain is an amazing teacher and practitioner; I am fortunate to train with him.

At Zen Shin Healing Center I found that "massage therapy,” offered a whole new meaning to the subject. I was accustomed to getting massages, but I learned they were what we refer to as feel good massage. I learned what the word massage therapy really meant-the movement of energy through your body-the actual flow of your life force. The experience last for days because you are being worked down to your cellular level and releasing toxins. If massage therapy as done at the Zen Shin Healing Center is not a part of your healing process, you are missing a step.
Maria B. (Student / Chi Gung)
I came to ZenShin on the recommendation of my Escrima instructor as I wished to study an internal style like Chi Gung. Having met Shihan Duke Swain, he insisted that I contact him. I was as impressed and began to study Chi Gung at Zenshin. Shihan is a gentle, compassionate instructor, grounded and confident in his all his Arts and his healing. Though I have more to learn, Wild Goose Breathing Chi Gung is all and more than I expected. Along with a growing respect for my teacher, I am learning the benefits of this practice. I have and will continue to recommend Shihan and his school to anyone.

While I was pregnant I wanted a massage to help relieve some tension and stress. I hade a regular massage, but it only provided a good rub down. Shihan Swain at the Zen Shin Healing Center recommended massage therapy. His massage removed all the negative energy associated with stress and tension from my body. I felt the effects for days. I recommend massage therapy to anyone who wants to benefit from his or her massage

I attend the classes at Zen Shin Healing and Martial Arts School because as a woman I feel it is important to learn how to defend myself in this crazy world we live in. These are no longer the days where you could wait on your husband, father or brother to protect you. You have the confidence to survive in any given situation on your own. Shihan's classes give me that.
Greg R. (Student / Martial Arts / Chi Gung)
Since I began my training at Zen Shin Healing & Martial Arts I have noticed a complete change in how I look at the martial arts. I have trained in the martial arts for many years and was taught and always thought that harder, faster and stronger is better. Having met and begun training with Shihan Duke Swain I now believe that softer and smarter is the better way. Mr. Swain’s approach to training is fun with a serious underline. He can calm you with his laid back demeanor yet blow you away with his explosive movements. I have also begun training in Chi Gung and look forward to the benefits and the guidance of Shihan Duke Swain.
